With the approach of the summer and the end of school, our streets will see an increased amount of youthful bicycle traffic. In an effort to promote bike safety and to develop increased skill levels, the Ocean Pines Police Department in conjunction with the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department, will coordinate a Bike Rodeo at the Ocean Pines South Side Fire Department Headquarters on July 31, 2009 from 5 7pm. A bike rodeo is a skills level bike course that promotes safe operation in a fun directed manner. It is designed for youths who operate a bicycle, as well as smaller kids who only operate a tricycle. The Worcester County Highway Safety Committee, the Worcester County Health Department, and the Worcester County 4-H are co-sponsoring this event. The rodeo will be separated into two phases, including a tricycle course for small kids starting at 5pm. For parents who cannot bring their own tricycle, several will be provided on-site. The second phase of the event shall be for kids who operate bicycles, and begins at 6pm. It is preferred that kids bring their own bikes and helmets to the rodeo, but free helmets shall be provided to those kids who do not possess one. In Maryland, all youths under the age of 16 must wear a bike helmet on public roads. Lets have some fun! No appointments necessary. Bring the kids to our Ocean Pines Bike Rodeo! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Annual Kiwanis Club of OP-OC Duck Race will be on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Frontier Town Water Park.
